Distinguished and Famous people from Charters Towers
Hugh Mosman
Hugh Mosman belonged to the prospecting party whose gold find led to the rush at Charters Towers around the turn of 1871–72. The party included George Clarke, John Fraser and the young Aboriginal member known as Jupiter. The council's history places the discovery near today's Mosman Street, Rainbow Road and Black Jack Road junction. Mosman later worked the North Australian Mine. The discovery was a shared achievement that rapidly drew prospectors and mining investment to the district.
